MP3 TO GUITAR TAB · TWO-STEP WORKFLOW

MP3 to guitar tab: make MIDI first, then finish the tab.

This site does not engrave guitar tablature directly. Upload a clear MP3 melody, download the MIDI note data, then open that MIDI in notation or tab software to choose guitar tuning, place notes on strings, and export the tab.

The practical route

  1. Audio → MIDI: use a clean single-note guitar passage or another solo melody, then inspect and download the detected MIDI.
  2. MIDI → guitar tab: import the MIDI into your tab editor, choose tuning and instrument, check string positions, and correct timing before exporting.

MIDI is an editable note-event handoff, not finished tablature. The tab editor still decides string assignment, fingering, tuning, rhythm notation, and layout.

Generated signal experiment

I generated a mono PCM WAV melody with four known pitches (60, 64, 67, and 72). The detector returned four events with those pitches. A simultaneous three-pitch signal (52, 55, and 59) returned no clear events in the same run. These are generated fixtures, not a human guitar recording and not an accuracy promise.

Guitar-tab limits

The converter does not separate guitar strings, infer a player's fingering, or turn chords into independent tab voices. Review every note in the tab editor, especially when the source contains overlapping notes, distortion, accompaniment, or noise.

Questions

Can I use MIDI to guitar tab?

Yes, as the second step. Import the downloaded MIDI into a tab editor, then select tuning and confirm each note's string and fret placement.

Can I convert audio to guitar tab?

You can prepare MIDI from a clear solo melody here, then finish guitar tab in another editor. This page does not output a finished tab file directly.

Can I convert guitar tab to MIDI?

Not from an image or PDF here. The current tool starts with MP3 or WAV audio and estimates MIDI notes; it does not read tab images or documents.

What if the MP3 contains chords?

Expect missing or combined notes. The tested detector is intended for one audible pitch at a time, so inspect the MIDI before using it to build a tab.

Before exporting

Listen to the source beside the MIDI, confirm the tempo and note lengths, choose a practical tuning, and correct string positions by hand. Export only after the tab matches the passage you intend to play.
